Fillers & Facial Balancing

In this guide
When comparing half syringe vs. full syringe lip filler, start with two questions: which exact product is being proposed, and how many milliliters would be injected? If a syringe contains 1 mL, half is 0.5 mL. That arithmetic does not tell you which amount suits your lips, what the result will look like, or what you will pay.
A useful quote connects the amount to your goals and includes the care around treatment. You can arrive with a preference for a small change without deciding on a syringe count before an assessment.
“Half” and “full” describe portions of a syringe. Milliliters, written as mL, describe volume. Confirm both rather than treating the words as a complete treatment plan.
The U.S. instructions for Restylane Kysse and Juvéderm Volbella XC direct users to the syringe label and carton for the volume supplied. Both are hyaluronic acid fillers with lip-augmentation indications for adults over 21. Those are specific products; a brand name or the ingredient “hyaluronic acid” alone does not establish approval for every use. Restylane Kysse instructions, Volbella XC instructions.
Ask the clinician to identify the exact product and whether the proposed use is within its FDA-approved labeling or off-label. These examples explain labels; they do not establish which products Calista currently stocks.
| Question | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| What does the syringe contain? | The exact product and labeled volume, rather than a brand name alone. |
| How much is proposed? | The amount in mL for this visit and the areas included. |
| What change is the plan aiming for? | The specific goal, its limits, and why that amount is being considered. |
| What is the total price? | The complete treatment quote and what follow-up or additional treatment would cost. |
You cannot reliably choose your own amount by matching someone else’s syringe count. A photograph does not provide their full treatment history or establish what is appropriate for your lips.
Volume is one part of a plan. The Volbella XC instructions describe the treatment outcome as depending on the area being corrected, tissue characteristics, placement and technique. They also recognize that swelling can make the amount of correction difficult to judge immediately. This supports discussing the whole plan, rather than expecting twice the volume to produce twice the visible change. Volbella XC instructions.
The Restylane Kysse pivotal study compared products with clinician-directed treatment; it was not a trial assigning everyone to either 0.5 mL or 1 mL. Its findings therefore do not establish a universal half-versus-full rule. FDA study summary.
Start by naming the change you want: more fullness, a different sense of balance, or a concern about a particular part of your lips. Describe what would feel like too much change as well.
Bring records of previous filler if you have them, including the product, date, amount and any problems. Ask the clinician:
If you prefer a gradual approach, say so. Ask about the assessment and cost of a possible later visit without assuming you will need one. You can also choose to pause after the discussion. Our filler consultation guide explains the broader appointment process.
Do not assume a proportional price. A per-syringe menu price does not, by itself, establish that a practice sells partial syringes or how it prices a smaller administered amount.
Compare written quotes with the same details: exact product, proposed mL, treatment areas, total charge and included care. Ask whether an assessment, numbing, a review visit or additional product carries a separate charge. If an offer applies, confirm its eligibility and terms before relying on it.
For Calista, check the current injectable menu and ask the team to confirm your complete quote. Availability and pricing for partial-syringe treatment need to be confirmed directly with the team.
Also separate the amount administered from the syringe’s use restrictions. Restylane Kysse is labeled for one patient and one session. A smaller administered amount does not authorize sharing the syringe or saving the remainder for a future visit. Restylane Kysse instructions.
Lip filler is a medical procedure. Possible effects include swelling, bruising, pain, tenderness and infection. Unintended injection into a blood vessel can cause tissue death, vision loss or stroke. A smaller quoted amount is not a guarantee against serious complications. FDA dermal filler guidance.
Before treatment, discuss your health history, allergies, medications and prior procedures. Ask who will perform treatment, what experience they have, and how they recognize and manage complications.
Seek immediate medical attention for unusual pain, skin turning white, gray or blue, vision changes, or signs of a stroke during or shortly after treatment. These are warning signs identified by the FDA. Do not wait for a routine follow-up to address them. FDA patient safety information.

Common questions
Only when the full syringe contains 1 mL. Ask for the exact product name, the volume printed on its syringe label and carton, and the amount proposed for your treatment. A syringe count without that information is incomplete.
The syringe count alone cannot answer that. Ask the treating clinician to explain how the proposed amount fits your existing lips, previous filler and specific goals. Neither a half nor a full syringe guarantees a particular appearance.
There is no universal starting amount established by the product labels reviewed here. Discuss whether treatment is appropriate, what change is realistic, and whether reassessment before additional treatment makes sense for your plan.
Ask the Calista team whether a smaller administered amount is available and how it is quoted. Confirm the exact product and complete price before making plans; a per-syringe menu price does not establish a partial-syringe price.
Do not assume it can. Restylane Kysse labeling specifies single-patient, single-session use. A quote for a smaller administered amount is not permission to share a syringe or reserve its remainder for another visit. Ask the clinician to explain the exact product's use instructions.
