Fillers & Facial Balancing

In this guide
Choosing between types of lip filler starts with the exact product name. Restylane and Juvéderm are product families, and the formulations within them have different labels. A useful comparison asks what each product is intended to treat, what matters to you and how a clinician would assess the fit.
Four products to know are Restylane Kysse, Restylane Silk, Juvéderm Volbella XC and Juvéderm Ultra XC. This guide compares their labeled lip uses and formulation details. It does not identify a winner or confirm that every product is available at Calista.
There are three different pieces of information in a filler conversation:
The four products below are crosslinked HA gels containing lidocaine, a local anesthetic. Their labels describe separate formulations and indications. Knowing that two options contain HA does not make them the same product. See the manufacturers’ Kysse, Silk, Volbella XC and Ultra XC labeling.
Before agreeing to treatment, ask for the full name and patient labeling of the proposed filler. The FDA recommends reviewing the information for the specific product with your healthcare provider. A familiar brand name is only the start of that discussion. FDA consumer guidance
All four products in this comparison have US lip indications for people over the age of 21. That wording does not mean everyone above that age is a suitable candidate. “Perioral” means around the mouth; “rhytids” means wrinkles.
| Exact product | Lip-related use described in its US labeling | HA concentration in the gel |
|---|---|---|
| Restylane Kysse | Lip augmentation and correction of upper perioral wrinkles | 20 mg/mL |
| Restylane Silk | Lip augmentation and correction of perioral wrinkles | 20 mg/mL |
| Juvéderm Volbella XC | Lip augmentation and correction of perioral wrinkles | 15 mg/mL |
| Juvéderm Ultra XC | Injection into the lips and perioral area for lip augmentation | 24 mg/mL |

Notice the distinction between adding fullness to the lips and treating wrinkles around them. Do not assume a lip-augmentation indication covers every concern near the mouth. Ask the clinician to identify both the product and the intended use. An indication for one formulation also does not establish lip approval for its entire brand family.
The concentration column describes the amount of HA in each milliliter of gel. It is not the amount that should be injected into your lips. A higher number is not a personal recommendation, and matching concentrations do not make Kysse and Silk interchangeable.
The product name matters beyond that one number. For example, Kysse’s labeling describes a flexible gel, while each product has its own device description and clinical evidence. Those descriptions do not establish that one product will feel softer, look more natural or perform better for you than another. Kysse labeling
Ask your clinician to explain the practical reason for the proposed formulation in plain language: “What about this product fits the change we are discussing?” If the answer is simply that one brand is always better, ask for the exact product and evidence behind that claim.
Product selection and amount are separate decisions. For the amount and quote discussion, read half syringe vs. full syringe lip filler. For maintenance questions, continue with how long lip filler lasts; this product comparison does not rank longevity.
You do not need to arrive having selected a syringe. Bring a description of the change you want to discuss and what you would prefer to preserve. These prompts can make the conversation more specific:
These are discussion prompts, not a product quiz. Neither a brand name nor an inspiration photo establishes which treatment is appropriate. It is reasonable to ask about alternatives, including choosing no treatment.
If your main question is about a lip flip, that is a separate discussion. Read our lip-flip guide for that separate comparison.
Lip filler is a medical procedure. Common reactions include swelling, bruising, redness and pain or tenderness. Less common complications include infection, nodules and allergic reactions. Accidental injection into a blood vessel can cause tissue death, blindness or stroke; serious harm can be permanent. No product name removes those risks. FDA filler overview
Review your medical history, previous filler and reactions, allergies, medications, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any active infection with the treating clinician. The exact product’s restrictions matter. For example, Silk lists bleeding disorders as a contraindication, while Kysse advises caution. These are reasons for individual screening, not instructions to change prescribed medication. Silk labeling, Kysse labeling
Seek immediate medical attention for unusual pain, vision changes, white, gray or blue skin near the injection site, or signs of a stroke during or shortly after treatment. Do not wait for a routine follow-up to assess those symptoms. FDA warning signs
Ask who will perform treatment, how complications are recognized and managed, and whom to contact with concerns. Follow the clinician’s written instructions; our filler aftercare guide is a separate reading resource.
Calista Aesthetics offers HA lip filler in Santa Ana’s South Coast Metro. Our service page describes an assessment of lip shape, symmetry, movement, prior filler and goals.
Explore lip filler at Calista and review appointment information. Ask which exact formulations are currently available, why a particular option is being proposed and what its patient labeling says. A useful consultation should leave you understanding the plan well enough to decide whether to proceed.
Common questions
A brand name alone cannot answer that. Ask which exact product is proposed, what it is labeled to treat and how the clinician expects it to fit your lips and goals. This comparison does not establish one product as best for everyone.
No. They are separate HA products. Both have labeled lip uses for patients over age 21, but Kysse's label includes upper perioral wrinkles, while Silk's includes perioral wrinkles. Ask to review the exact product's patient information.
Both have lip-augmentation indications for adults over age 21. Volbella XC also has a perioral-wrinkle indication; Ultra XC's lip indication describes augmentation of the lips and perioral area. They have different HA concentrations, which alone cannot predict your result.
Do not assume so. FDA indications belong to the exact product and use. A lip indication for one formulation does not establish lip approval for every product sharing its brand name.
This educational comparison is not an inventory list. Calista offers HA lip filler; ask the team which exact formulations are currently available and appropriate to discuss at your consultation.
